Before submitting a manuscript , the author must ensure that it has been prepared in accordance with the editorial standards detailed below:
● If the manuscript is written in English and the authors are not native English speakers, an expert should review the language usage before submitting it to the journal. American Journal Experts are recommended:
http://www.journalexperts.com/
● The manuscript must be accompanied by a cover letter detailing the relevance of the research and the appropriateness of its publication in this journal, including the two potential reviewers.
● The manuscript must be submitted in Word or RTF format; tables must be included at the end of the text, and figures must be sent in a separate file.
● The text must be double-spaced with all margins at least 25 mm.
● The font should be 12-point Times New Roman throughout the manuscript.
● A 2 cm indentation should be left at the beginning of each paragraph.
● Words will not be separated into syllables at the end of the line, nor will the right margin be justified.
● No extra space will be left between paragraphs.
● The lines of the text must be numbered consecutively.
Scientific names
● Scientific names should be written in full the first time they are used in the text. Subsequently, the generic name should be abbreviated, except when it appears at the beginning of a sentence, in titles, or headings.
● Scientific names should be written in italics, not underlined.
● Authorities and dates are only required in systematic papers. In these cases, only the first mention of the species name in the abstract and in the text should be noted.
● Manuscripts must adhere to the International Code of Nomenclature.
● Authors and dates cited as authorities for scientific names should not be included in the cited literature section.
Full-length articles. Manuscripts should be written in the following format:
● Pages must be numbered consecutively, starting with the title page.
● Header . At the top of the first page, write the author’s last name (use et al. for more than two) and a short title of the work, which should not exceed 60 spaces, including blanks; for example, Gutiérrez et al. – Hirudinidae of the Mexican Pacific.
● Title . The title of the article in Spanish will appear at the beginning of the left margin and in bold; The English version of the title will appear on a separate line. If the manuscript is in English, the English title will appear first.
– The title should be brief and descriptive; it should not contain the names of authorities or the dates of scientific names.
– In the title, numbers less than 11 must be written in letters; For the rest of the text, numerical symbols must be used for all figures, except at the beginning of the sentence, where they must be written in letters.
– Numbered works submitted as part of a series will not be accepted.
● The full names of the authors must be provided below, without bold, written at the beginning of the left margin of a new line, indicating with an asterisk the name of the author to whom the correspondence will be sent.
● Complete addresses should be provided immediately below, on a new line, including the email addresses of all participating authors and indicating the corresponding author’s email address with a *. Addresses should be linked to the authors’ names using superscript lowercase letters.
● Abstract . A summary of no more than 200 words must be written in Spanish, containing the objective, methods used, conclusions, and significance of the work. If the manuscript is in English, the English abstract will appear first. The section should begin with the word “Abstract” in the left margin, in bold. The text should begin on a single line, in a single paragraph, without subdivisions or bibliographic citations.
● Keywords . A maximum of 8 keywords not included in the title will be provided on a separate line.
● Abstract . All manuscripts must include an English version of the abstract, as well as the keywords, presented in the same format as in Spanish.
● Introduction . The title for this section—as well as for the Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, and Acknowledgments sections—should be written in bold, at the beginning of the left margin of the page (without indentation).
– The text in this section should be written without subdivisions. It may be subdivided in subsequent sections; subheadings should be italicized, not bold, and the text should begin on the same line.
● Materials and methods . This section should provide sufficient information to determine the relevance and/or repeatability of the study.
● Results . The text will contain new and concise information.
– Data presented in tables and figures should not be repeated in the text.
– Avoid detailing methods and interpreting results in this section.
– In taxonomic works, the subtitle “Results” is replaced by “Description”.
– Also without indentation, the line begins with the scientific name of the taxon in italics, with authorities, date and, if applicable, reference to figures.
– The next line begins the description text; the description is followed by a “Taxonomic Summary,” which includes the location, accession number of the collection where the specimens have been deposited, and, in the case of new species, the etymology.
– In the section titled “Taxonomic Comments,” which replaces the Discussion section of other articles, similar or related taxa are compared. This sequence of subsections is repeated for each taxon.
– If the Description in the taxonomic manuscripts does not include all the results, it will be incorporated into the normal Results section.
– In the case of descriptions of new species, the type or paratypes of the new taxa must be deposited in a recognized institutional biological collection.
– For specimens deposited in museums, the accession numbers for the type material and the specimens consulted (vouchers) must be indicated. For frozen tissues deposited in museums, as well as DNA sequences deposited in databases, the accession numbers must also be included. For photocollection records, an accession number for a recognized institutional collection must be included.
– Indicate the collection permit number of the specimens where applicable.
● Discussion . This section will include an interpretation and explanation of the relationship between the results and prior knowledge on the topic.
● Acknowledgments . These should be concise. Ethics requires that you consult with colleagues whose names you wish to include in this section in advance.
● In-text references . They will be listed alphabetically.
– All references in the text must appear in the References section and vice versa.
– Citations from unpublished studies or records will not be accepted.
– It will be cited alphabetically as follows:
(Aguilar, 2000) or Aguilar (2000) …
(Aguilar & Camacho, 2001) or Aguilar and Camacho (2001)
(Aguilar et al., 2002) or Aguilar et al. (2002)
(Aguilar, 2000; Juarez, 1994; Mendez, 1954)
– In alphabetical and chronological order (for the same author)— (Juárez, 1958, 1960a, b; Méndez, 1954)).
NOTE: Do not use italics for: et al.,
Do not use the ampersand symbol (&) under any circumstances if the text is in Spanish, but use it for papers in English.
● References , the list will contain all the citations that appear in the text and will be listed in alphabetical order according to the examples given below:

– Callouts and footnotes . Callouts are not permitted with footnotes in the text. In tables, they may be included directly in a table footnote.
● Tables . The inclusion of tables should be limited to cases where the data cannot be adequately incorporated into the text.
– They will be included at the end of the text (after the cited literature section), they will be numbered consecutively and will be referred to in the text in that same sequence.

Each paragraph will begin with the word “Figure” and the corresponding number.
– It is not necessary to send the original figures the first time a manuscript is submitted for review; However, the copies must be of sufficient quality to allow the reviewers to evaluate the figure. The originals will be required once the manuscript has been accepted for publication. Only then will the electronic version of the figures be submitted in TIFF format with a resolution of 300 dpi.
